Frequently Asked Questions
- Why yet another VJ program?
- Why use OpenGL?
- How do I write my own plugins?
- How do I join this project?
VDOWall is not _just_ a VJ program. I must admit that that would be the best use of it, but it is also able to compose video and save it to disk, without ever displaying it on a projection device. Well, in the future anyways ;) All I say is: use it as you like and be happy ... or just shut up.
Why not? I mainly use OpenGL because it lets me easily blend layers and insert 3d objects. OpenGL also does some great realtime rendering, because most of it is hardware accellerated. As OpenGL gets developed over and over, the possibilities are never limited. However, in the current state, the programmer is not able to access, edit and display the screen buffer, so it does have some disadvantages. Luckily, there's things like shaders, which supposedly should make things easier.
Well, this is fairly simple, if you're a bit familiar with C++ and OpenGL. I refer to the documentation for an explanation on how to create custom plugins.
For now, I am developing this project by myself. However, in the near future I plan to make it public and create a team. Just email me and we'll see.
